They chose you. This #DAFDay, say Thank You.
Tomorrow, October 8, is #DAFDay, the annual giving day for donor-advised funds. We have one small ask for every charity in our network: this #DAFDay, say thank you.
In the last fiscal year, donor-advised funds granted $2 billion to Canadian charities. Each of those grants began with a person deciding your work was worth supporting. To make saying thank you easy, we’ve put together a free Thank a DAF Donor toolkit.
Why a Public Thank-You Matters
A DAF grant reaches you from a foundation, one step removed from the donor. It can arrive without a name attached, and sometimes the donor has asked to stay anonymous. That extra step makes it easy for the person behind the gift to go unthanked.
When we recently interviewed charity partners about their experience with DAF gifts, the question we heard most was how to build a relationship with a donor you can’t contact directly. A public thank-you is one answer. It reaches donors you can’t identify, and it tells every DAF holder who follows you that their giving is seen and welcome.
A gift that arrives through a DAF still comes from a person who chose you.
What’s In the Toolkit
- Two ready-to-post thank-you graphics, one with room for your logo.
- Three sample captions: a short version, one with space for an impact line, and one written for anonymous donors.
- Place2Give DAF 101: our overview of how donor-advised funds work and how grants reach your charity.
- Place2Give Stewardship Guide: our guide and checklist for building long-term relationships with DAF donors.
Everything in it is free to use.
How to Say Thank You
- Download the toolkit below and choose a graphic. To add your own logo, upload the graphic to Canva or PowerPoint and place your logo in the bottom-left corner.
- Pick a caption and make it yours.
- Post it on October 8th. Tag Place2Give Foundation and add #DAFDay, and we’ll reshare it.
After October 8
One post is a start. Stewardship turns a single grant into ongoing support: check grant notices for the fund name, add identified DAF donors to your impact updates, and mention DAF giving in your planned-giving materials. The stewardship guide in the toolkit walks through each step.
A note on Anonymous Donors
Many DAF donors give anonymously, so please don’t name a donor publicly unless they have agreed to it. If a gift came to you through Place2Give and you’d like to thank the donor personally, send us your note, and we’ll forward it.
